Francophone Mobility

Program Overview

The Francophone Mobility Program, facilitates the process for French-speaking foreign nationals to secure work permits in Canada, with the aim of supporting the development of vibrant Francophone communities across the country.

The program offers an exemption from the Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA), meaning employers do not need to obtain a positive LMIA to hire.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in French through a French language diploma.
  • Job offer can be part-time or full-time.
  • No restrictions based on age or nationality.
  • Applies to most employment positions, excluding agricultural roles.
  • Excludes employers in the province of Quebec.

STEPS - How Participate in the Program

  1. Received a job offer from a Canadian employer (ensure the letter of offer meets the program eligibility criteria, and the IRCC standards).
  2. Employer must submit a “job offer” through the IRCC employer-portal and pay the necessary fees, and receive a job offer number.
  3. Candidate can proceed with a work permit application.

Benefits of the Francophone Mobility Program

For Employers:

  • No need of lengthy LMIA application process.
  • No $1000 LMIA fee per hire.
  • Job offers do not require French language skills on the job.
  • Specific work permit tied to the employer.
  • The work permit is valid for the duration of the job offer and can be renewed. Part-time or full-time.

For Candidates:

  • No expensive languages test needed.
  • Open work permit for common-law partners and spouses (for jobs over 6 months).
  • Study authorization for dependent children.
  • Access to government-funded French-language settlement services.
  • A step closer to permanent residency.
